Ghirardelli Square Treat Gift Box
Tutorial
My inspiration for today's project comes from the many, many videos on Pinterest and YouTube for these treat boxes. I took the basic concepts and then worked out my own sizing for the chocolate squares and card stock I had. I work for John Deere and my job is to assist our units with system upgrades. For the past year I have been working with
the Argentinian site team toward our Go-Live Implementation date. That date has finally
arrived, and so I headed to Argentina for two weeks to provide on-site support. I wanted to bring with me a small treat to share so I brought down
some Ghirardelli squares in various flavors.
Being a crafter, knowing I was going to be here over a weekend, I
packed a few supplies with the hope of maybe getting in some creative
time. Due to an unfortunate incident where
I have injured my hip and back, I ended up spending the weekend in my hotel
room instead of exploring the city. To
fend off the boredom (all the TV stations are in Spanish 😊),
I looked through what I had ended up tossing in the suitcase at the last minute and thought
I might be able to put a little “wrapping” on the chocolates. So, I decided to make little treat boxes. I ended up making over 40 and it only took a few hours in assembly line fashion. This is what I came up with - hope you enjoy!

For this
project I used the retiring Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper. Out of each 12” x 12” sheet, I was able to
get 6 pieces 3 ½” x 6” for the box along with 4 pieces of ¾” x 5 ½” strips for my
belly band. This left me with only 2 1”
x ¾” pieces of scrap! I decided to use 3 pieces from each side of the DSP and used
the opposite side for the belly band. I
didn’t have enough for all 6 boxes, so I supplemented 2 of the belly band strips
with coordinating card stock scraps.
Score
as instructed above and you should end up with your piece matching the template
shown below.
We are going
to be cutting off most of the score lines on the long side. In the vertical position, with the small
section at the top, we are going to cut away everything except for the section
up to the first score line. (See
template)
I rounded the
two corners at the top and used the retiring ¾” punch to punch a half circle at
the center of the bottom section to make it easier to remove the chocolate. (You could also use the 1” punch for this). I
used a corner rounder to round the top panel corners
Using your
bone folder, fold and burnish your score lines.
Place Tear & Tape strips on the back of the outside section on both
sides.
Because I
used DSP, I will not be adding layers.
If you used plain card stock, then you’d probably want to add DSP layers
before moving to the next step. You would need:
2 pieces 1 ¾” by 1 ¾”
1 piece 1” by 1 ¾”
Remove the
adhesive backing and align the with the sides of the center section. Repeat on the
other side. I used my bone folder to rub
the inside adhesive panels to make sure they were adhered well. Add your Ghirardelli Square.
Using the
scrap piece of Whisper White, punch a 1” circle and stamp with your
sentiment. I used the “celebrate”
sentiment from the retiring Thoughtful Banners set and in the color of Night of
Navy. After all, we are celebrating a successful
implementation!
I had brought
with me the already retired Story Label punch, but the full design was just too big for the box,
so I improvised. By snipping off the
ends and rotating it was perfect for me to use a glue dot to attach my 1”
circle sentiment to. On the back of the
label I used a piece of Tear and Tape.
Using a glue
dot, center the sentiment circle on top of the label.
On one end of
the belly band, place a piece of tear & tape across the ¾” side. Peel the protective strip from the adhesive.
With the box top closed and holding that end in the center of the front
overlapping the top, wrap the rest of the band around the side and lay the opposite
end into the adhesive.
Peeling the protective
strip from the adhesive, align the label with the sentiment in the center of
the belly band and adhere.
You could
certainly add additional embellishments to bling or jazz your box up, but I
didn’t remember to pack any…oops! I
think they turned out pretty nice just as they are.
